Saint Anthony’s triathlon
Just crawled my way to my 40th out of 41 Saint Anthony’s annual triathlon. Swim 1 mile, bike 26 miles, run 6 miles. getting slower every year, but still finish! I can easily be spotted in the water – breaststroke only to see where I’m going, and to look out for sharks, wetsuit, no goggles, and slow. A friend made me a quilt last year with all 40 of my shirts. For the first few years in the early 1980s I was the Medical Director and ran to the medical tent when I finished. It has become much more sophisticated with multiple doctors, nurses, and paramedics. I also annually covered the kids, meek and mighty triathlon the day before for 25 years.
In the 1980s I annually organized about 12 physician teams to race and housed many athletes every year including Olympic gold medal winners and Hawaii Iron Man winners. It was fun to hang out with them and learn about the sport.
