I just completed the Gasparilla race for the 47th Gasparilla in a row—and this year I did it with my wife, Jennifer, who also serves as office manager in our practice. Crossing the finish line together was a reminder of why staying active has been so important to me both as a physician and as a husband and father.
Staying active isn't just about fitness. It's about quality of life, mental clarity, and the simple joy of moving. I've always believed that the habits we model at home—whether it's running, tennis, or biking to school with the kids—shape how our families think about health for life. Running Gasparilla with Jennifer is one way we keep that commitment to each other and to ourselves.
I encourage my patients to find something they enjoy and to do it with people they care about. It doesn't have to be a race; it can be a daily walk, a weekly swim, or a game of tennis. The key is consistency and, when possible, sharing it with someone. Here's to many more Gasparilla mornings—and to staying active together.
